James Travis Reeves was born near Galloway, Texas on August 20, 1923. He was the youngest of 9 children born to Tom and Beulah Reeves. However, music wasn't Jim's first love, it was baseball. He graduated Carthage High School in 1942, he attended the University of Texas at Austin for a short time on a baseball scholarship. He also worked in Houston's shipyards during WWI. All the while working toward a goal of a major league career. He did spend five years with Southern and Midwestern semi-professional teams. But in 1947 a leg injury on the field sidelined his baseball career.


His clear speaking voice got him an announcing job at KRGI in Henderson, Texas. From there, he started playing records and singing on the radio. As is singing talent developed, he recorded for a small label in Houston called Macy's. From there, he moved on to RCA Records, and the rest is Jim Reeves musical history.
Even though his actual recording career only lasted 11 years, he left us with decades of memorable music. That legacy is reflected in this 2-CD collection of his best work. With early hits like "Bimbo," "Beatin' On The Ding Dong," "Penny Candy" and "Drinking Tequila." Jim Reeves started out as more of a novelty recording act. It was later at RCA where he refined his singing style. You can hear that smooth singing style in such classics as "Four Walls," "Two Shadows On Your Window," "I'm Gettin' Better" and of course "He'll Have To Go." Jim Reeves.
